When To Replace Your Chevy Silverado 1500 Headlights?

You should replace your headlights when you notice that they are dimmer than usual. Typically, different types of headlights will have a varying lifespan. For example, halogen headlights will last between 500 and 1,000 hours.

HID headlights can last up to 2,000 hours, with Xenon headlights lasting up to 10,000 hours. LED lights, on the other hand, will last you up to 30,000 hours. So depending on the type of headlight bulbs, you have to replace the headlights when they start dimming.

It is important to note that buildup or grime on the headlight cover can also cause the headlights to dim. Thus it may be wise to clean the covers before choosing the headlights.

Are Aftermarket Headlights worth it?

Yes, most aftermarket headlights offer improved visibility over the default headlights found on the Chevy Silverado, especially the older models. Also, aftermarket headlights give room for customization thanks to the wide variety of options available.

Advantages of aftermarket Chevy Silverado headlights

So what are some of the benefits of the best aftermarket headlights for the 2012 chevy Silverado and later models?

Easy to install:

Aftermarket headlights are generally easy to install, and most can be plugged into your Chevy without any problems.

Customization:

Aftermarket headlights come in a wide array of designs, shapes, and light bulb types. Thus you can find one that suits your preferences and design taste.

Improved light:

These headlights offer improved light over the stock headlights you get with your Chevy Silverado.

Give your Chevy a trendy look: New aftermarket headlights will give your Silverado a new look without you investing in costly body modifications.

How to install chevy Silverado headlights

As already stated, installing headlights isn’t complicated and can be accomplished with basic tools. The first is to pop open the hood to access the radiator shell, which you will have to remove.

Eight plastic push pins secure the shell. You can remove these pins using a small flat screwdriver. The next step is to remove the grill, which is usually secured by four 10mm bolts.

Next, use pliers to compress the metal clips that hold the grill and pull them to release the grill. To get to the headlights, you will need to remove the wheel well of the front wheel that is secured by two bolts.

Once the wheel well is removed, you will notice a 10 mm bolt, unscrew it. Next, on the top of the, two 10mm bolts are holding the headlight. Unscrew them and pull the headlight outward and disconnect the headlight connector.

Remove the wiring harness of the headlight and transfer it to the new headlight. After transferring the wire harness, connect the new headlight to the headlight connector and pop it back in.

How do you adjust the headlights on a Silverado?

Adjusting the headlights on your Silverado is quite easy. The first step is to pull your truck up to a wall, door, or side of a building. The truck should be about 6 to 10 feet away from the building’s wall, door, or side.

Next, pop open the hood of your truck and find the adjustment screws. These screws are located one at the top of the assembly housing and the other on the side. Some models use rods instead of screws which are found on the upper part of the headlight assembly.

Use the screws to adjust the headlights. The top screw will adjust the beam up and down, while the side screw will adjust it left and right. The outer rod will be for left to right adjustment when using rods, while the inner one will be for top-bottom adjustment.

Watch the light beam as you adjust. Ideally, the beams should be level with each other and aimed at the same height as the headlight assembly.

Review Of Best Aftermarket Headlights For The Chevy Silverado

AUTOSAVER88 Headlight Assembly kit

The AutoSaver88 Headlight assembly kit is a favorite of many, myself included. These headlights have a stylish design that is sure to give your Chevy an updated look. But there is more to these headlights than their stylish design.

While some people have complained of having trouble fitting these headlights, I had no problems fitting them onto my 2004 Chevy Silverado 2500. It took about 20 minutes to install them, thanks to the bolt-on design. I did find the holding pin to be a bit tight, but it is to be expected with new headlight kits.

As for the construction, these are made from a pretty tough ABS plastic. It seems to be the same used on OEM factory lights, which means that the headlights are weather resistant. In addition, this unit is housed in a protective unit to prevent moisture from entering.

However, I would recommend applying clear silicone around the edges as they aren’t fully sealed. These headlights are compatible with 2003-2007 Chevrolet Silverado 2500,1500, 3500 1500HD, and 2500HD models. Given their design and make, these are the best aftermarket headlights for a 2003 and 2006 chevy Silverado.

Review Of Anzo USA 111373 Projector Headlight Set

If you are looking for the best aftermarket headlights for the 2016 to 2018 Silverado, look no back and check out the Anzo USA 111373 Projector Headlight Set. They are available in chrome and have a sleek design near the OEM headlight look. In addition, these headlights feature single projector technology, which projects strong beam lights onto the road and is ideal for dark roads at night.

The light can illuminate the road in dark areas without blinding other drivers on the road. The high beam is excellent for nighttime driving when you need extra visibility while still seeing a long distance ahead of you, making you safer on the road. The headlights are durable and use high-quality material to look great when installed.

Speaking about the turn signals, a total number of twelve sequential LEDs are used to light up the turn signals. These LEDs are lights up in sequential order whenever you turn the wheel of your car.

The white daytime running lights are very bright and very visible. The daytime running lights are located around the projector of these headlights and are concealed by a light-diffusing strip. These give the Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) a sharp, even distribution of light and give the truck a high-tech, modern look.

The outer trim is removable and can be painted in different colors or any other accent color that you want.

These headlights are also very easy to install and take on average 30 minutes or less to complete installation. Honestly, they are straightforward to install since you don’t have to mess with the wiring or any other components. Simply plug and play, that’s it – job done!

To install these headlights, I found no issues doing it myself, but I suggest you not try to install them yourself if you don’t know how to mount them.

In terms of build quality, these headlights are sturdy and durable. These have a super-strong construction, which is why I believe that you won’t be having any issues with the durability of these lights.

These headlights have UV Protection & Abrasive Coating to ensure that the headlights stay scratch-free for many years to come. Also, AnzoUSA tests these headlights in the most extreme conditions to ensure that they can withstand the most severe weather conditions. Which ensures the elimination of the possibility of building up any moisture inside the headlights.

Some of the tests they did to check the durability of these headlights include salt spray tests; to check to what extent they can withstand the oxidation problem caused by the salt. They also did the dust, temperature, and moisture test to check the performance of these headlights against different weather conditions and road surface conditions.

One thing to remember is that they don’t come with headlight bulbs and do not fit with the factory LED headlight bulbs. Meaning if you purchase these headlights, you can reuse the old HIDs that are already in your Silverado, or if your truck doesn’t come with HIDs, then I recommend you to buy a set of LED Bulbs. Also, there is no issue if you want to upgrade your HID bulbs to LEDs. You can still do that and, at the same time, upgrade your HIDs to LEDs as well.

Finally, Anzo USA 111373 Projector Headlight Set is definitely a good choice. They are made from high-quality materials and will not break easily, which is something that you want in your headlight. Also, they are effortless to install and won’t take a lot of time.

Best aftermarket headlights 2015 Silverado: AmeriLite Black Square Projector Dual LED Bar Headlights Pair

A couple of months ago, I was looking for the best headlights for the 2015 Silverado 1500 Pickup Truck. I had a couple of options to choose from. After researching and browsing the web, I finally decided to give a shot at the AmeriLite Black Square Projector Dual LED Bar Headlights for Silverado 1500.

I was a bit skeptical at first because It was quite affordable than the OEM. So I really didn’t know if the headlights would be any good for the 2015 Silverado 1500 Pickup at that price. But after the installation, it was an excellent experience for me and my family members as well. The headlights are very bright, and the best part is the headlights are also very durable for the 2015 Silverado 1500 Pickup.

The best part of these headlights is they are near the OEM headlights, and the installation is very easy. The lights are also optimized for high beams, making it a perfect choice for the 2015 Silverado 1500 Pickup Truck. Most importantly, The headlights have a sound light output and have enough visibility at night, so you don’t have to worry about driving at night.

At the above of the dual DRLs light, AmeriLite featured a light-diffusing strip to give the headlights a more modern and sleek look. The projector is squared in shape and is black in color with a black bezel. This provides the headlight with a smoky finish. Still, the lens itself is transparent, so talking about the visibility, there’s no issue.

Now comparing to our AmeriLite headlights with the Anzo USA 111373, the AmeriLite comes with H1 (high beam) and H7 (low beam) halogen light bulbs with the package. Whereas the AnzoUSA 111373 doesn’t come with the H1 and H7 bulbs. Moreover, you can install LEDs or HIDs in these AmeriLite headlights as per your choice. Though I am still using the H1 and H7 bulbs and have a plan to change them to LEDs.

Like the AnzonUSA, this AmeriLite headlight also has turn signals which flash and blink whenever you turn the wheels with having the turn signals.

Another thing I like about the AmeriLite Black Square Projector Dual LED headlight is the factory setup meaning it’s plug and plays with the factory wiring. To set up these headlights took hardly 30 minutes with the help of basic tools.

Talking about build quality, the headlights are made of high-quality material to meet the OEM standards and have a long life span. Also, you can enjoy a decent warranty period if you don’t like the headlights for any reason; you can easily return them.

Finally, if you are looking for the best headlights for the 2015 Silverado 1500 Pickup Truck, AmeriLite Black Square Projector Dual LED headlights are the best option. So grab these if you want good quality and budget headlights simultaneously.

You won’t regret buying these AmeriLite Black Square Projector Dual LED headlights. The AmeriLite Black Square Projector Dual LED Bar Headlights for Silverado 1500 is available in the market at an affordable price tag. It is an excellent choice to go with if you want bright headlights that will not cost much money.

DNA Motoring HL-OH-CS03-4P-CH-AM Chrome Amber Headlights

The DNA Motoring Chrome amber headlights are compatible with several Silverado models, including the 1500 and the 2500HD classic models. As for the year, they should fit into 2003 to 2006 Chevy Silverado & 2003-2006 Chevy Avalanche models.

But what do you get from these headlights? Firstly, these are easy to install with a direct bolt-on fitment. Nevertheless, the manufacturer does recommend the installation process to be done by an expert, which is always a good idea.

Inside the headlights are 9006 Low/ 9005 High Beam Light Bulbs. The latter provides excellent visibility and should last for a very long time.

The headlights do come with silicone sealing, but I found that it is still good to apply additional sealing, especially on the lower bulb housing.

best led headlights for chevy silverado: AmeriLite for 2007-2013 Chevy Silverado

Except for the 2007 Chevy Silverado Classic Model, the AmerLite headlights should fit the 2007-2013 Silverado models, including the 2500HD and 3500HD. These headlights are a great replacement option.

As with the other models on the list, these are quite easy to install. No modifications are required, and it should take you about 15 to 20 minutes to install these 2007-2013 Chevy Silverado replacement lights.

The headlights house halogen bulbs, which are known for their longevity. Thus you should expect to have these headlights for quite some time. Nonetheless, these headlights are not the brightest, in my opinion.

Also, the housing behind the bulb is soft plastic. This was a bit disappointing and may not perform well at keeping moisture out over time. Overall, though, these are great options if you do not live in areas of frequent heavy rainfall.

DNA Motoring HL-OH-CSIL07-BK-CL1 Black Housing Headlights

The DNA Motoring HL-OH-C SIL07 -BK-CL1 headlights have a stunning design with black housing. And they are compatible with the 2007-2013 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 and 2500 models.

One of the standout features of these headlights is their construction. They are made from stainless steel, which is both corrosion and rust-resistant. Also, stainless steel is more durable than plastic, so these should outlive some of their competitors.

As for the bulbs, these headlights use 9005 High Model LED lights. This should last up to 50000 hours. Also, these bulbs are brighter than standard bulbs, which is another great feature of these headlights.

There may be some issues with getting the bulb harness to fit properly. And you may struggle with them. And this was the main negative I noticed with this 2007-2014 Chevy Silverado replacement headlamp. But, overall, these headlights, with their black bezel design, look stunning and perform great.

Auto And Art headlights For Silverado

While these Auto and Art headlights are compatible with several Chevy models, they aren’t the most aesthetically pleasing. They have a rather dull design, in my opinion. However, this shouldn’t dissuade you from getting these for your Chevy.

These are designed for older Silverado models of 1999-2002. So the rather outdated design will be right at home on any one of these Chevy Silverado models. Furthermore, these headlights are able to accommodate the 2002 chevy 2500hd headlight bulb size.

The outer area of these headlights is glass. This means that they can get the most out of the bulbs. This translates to improved visibility at night.

As for the installation, they are relatively easy to install. No modifications are required to make these headlights fit. Also, they come in a set of four and are quite affordable. Overall, if you do not mind the rather dull design, you will be rewarded with superb headlights.

RXMOTOR HL-CH912030BA Headlights

The RXMOTOR HL-CH912030BA headlight housing is a great option for the 2003-2006 Chevy Silverado pickup trucks. These headlights will fit into both the Silverado 2500 and 3500 models. Also, this pair of headlights are compatible with the Chevy Avalanche model.

One of the nice features of these headlights is the inclusion of the bumper light assembly. In addition, the entire body is made from tough ABS plastic, which should keep your headlights weather resistant and in good shape for long.

The glass lens will help amplify the bulbs’ light to give you improved visibility for nighttime driving. Unfortunately, these do not come with bulbs included. However, this allows you to pick your choice of bulbs.

As for installation, there is no installation guide included. As such, it is best to have the process done by a professional mechanic.

DEPO 335-1145L-AC Replacement

The sleek and bold design of the DEPO 335-1145L-AC Replacement headlights will make your truck stand out. This headlight replacement is set to fit the 2007-2013 Silverado models. And while it is sold as a single driver side headlight, it has a lot to offer.

This headlight comes with all the installation components necessary. This includes the sockets and bulbs as well as lights to be used on the signal lamp. This makes installation easy and does not require any modifications.

The bulbs you get with this headlight are halogen bulbs. This offers longevity and will outlive other types of bulbs used in headlights. Thanks to their design and installation kit, these are among the best aftermarket headlights for the 2012 Chevy Silverado.

The one notable negative of this headlight is that they do tend to accumulate moisture over time. However, this can be corrected by adding a silicone sealant on the edges.

Spyder Auto PRO-YD-CS07-HL-BSM Chevy Silverado LED Halo Projector Headlight

If you are looking for the best aftermarket Projector Headlight for the 2009 Chevy Silverado 1500 Pickup, let me introduce you to the Spyder Auto LED Halo projector headlights. These come in several variants, chrome, black and smoked.

For this review, I picked the smoked headlights. These give your truck a unique design compared to the other two versions. And as their name suggests, these are high-quality aftermarket projector lights.

They use an advanced LED design, which means they will last longer and not consume as much energy as other headlights. At the same time, they offer excellent light for nighttime driving.

These are designed to fit into the 2007 to 2014 Chevy Silverado 2500 and 3500 models. At the same time, they are among the best aftermarket headlights for 07-13 Silverado 1500. Some people have complained of the low beam bulbs burning out after a short period. However, this is not the case for everyone.

AKKON store replacement headlights for 2007-2013 Chevy Silverado

Another set of smoked headlights for the Chevy Silverado, these high-quality headlights from AKKON will fit into 2007 to 2013 Silverado models. Thanks to their smoked design, they should give your truck an aggressive look.

These come with an instructions manual and are relatively easy to install. Nevertheless, you will need to apply a permatex black sealant between the lens and the housing. I would recommend a free-flowing sealant that will penetrate small areas.

There is a small air vent on the back of the housing. This works to release pressure generated by the temperature difference of the bulbs and the outside of the housing.

These headlights are a good option. However, I wouldn’t recommend using the factory sealant. Instead, use a silicone sealant to seal the headlight to prevent moisture from entering.

Best aftermarket headlights for Silverado buying guide

When searching for the Best Aftermarket headlights for Silverado, there are several things you should consider. The main ones are;

Model compatibility

The Chevy Silverado models go as far back as 1998, with the newest model being the 2019 model. Additionally, the Silverado typically has a number added to its name. This usually indicates the payload weight it can carry.

Meaning that there are several variants of this famous Chevy truck. As such, different headlights are designed to fit other models. Before settling on a headlight kit, ensure it can fit your specific Silverado model.

The installation process

Installing a set of new headlights shouldn’t be a process that takes hours. More importantly, it shouldn’t involve the use of drilling equipment. Therefore, aftermarket headlights should be easy to install without the need for modifications.

Some come with an instructions manual on how to install them included in the headlight assembly kit. However, not all of them do, and those that do not come with one will require a professional. Ideally, you want an assembly kit that you can install yourself.

The bulb used

Not every replacement headlight assembly kit will come with bulbs included. However, those that do will offer either Halogen, LED, or Xenon bulbs. Halogen bulbs are more common and have a light output of about 400 lumens, meaning they are sufficiently bright.

But they are not energy efficient. LED bulbs are a better option as they are more energy-efficient while being bright at the same time. Xenon bulbs offer exceptional brightness but aren’t the most energy-efficient.

LED bulbs are therefore a better choice, though most headlights come with halogen bulbs. Though in some cases, you can always switch out the bulbs for LED ones such as 9012 LED headlight bulbs or 9007 LED bulbs.

The design

We all want headlights whose design will look good on our trucks. Different headlights come with different designs. Some have a smoked design that gives them a unique and aggressive look.

When it comes to design, it comes down to your preferences, as there are many design options to choose from.

Durability

This depends on the material used to manufacture the headlights. Some are made from stainless steel, which is corrosion and rust-resistant metal. Most commonly, though, ABS plastic is used.

This type of plastic is hard, shock-absorbent, and resistant to impact and scratches. These types of headlights will also last long.

SAE certification

SAE stands for the Society of Automotive Engineers. The SAE certificate is issued to LED headlights and denotes that the headlights are safe to use on the road. Therefore, an SAE certification is a sign of quality.

Warranty and price

The price of a headlight kit will also influence your choice. Some are inexpensive without compromising on quality. And these offer the best value. The AUTOSAVER88 Headlight Assembly kit is one such example.

A long warranty will also be a sign of good quality construction and durability. Thus, it is always something to consider.

Frequently Asked Questions

Conclusion

The Best Aftermarket headlights for Silverado can be found with a little bit of research. And my list should be a good place for you to start. There are many different options available in the market, each with its pros and cons.
